New and Unique Features of Rotomite-8000

While many features of the Rotomite-8000 are similar or identical to the Rotomite-6000, the Rotomite-8000 has several new and unique features that increase productivity and versatility.

  • Power Diversion. The power diversion feature, standard on the Rotomite-8000, enables optimal use of the dredge’s available power at all times.
  • Best Efficiency Point. The Rotomite-8000 will operate at the nominal design Best Efficiency Point (BEP) of 3250 GPM at 120’ TDH (in clean water).  Depending on power usage of other dredge functions, the dredge can operate a high BEP of 3850 GPM @ 180’ TDH.  The dredge can even attain flows in excess of 5000 GPM and can reach total dynamic heads as high as 260’.
  • Best Value. The foregoing capabilities result in maximum versatility, minimum operating costs, and “Best Value” for the customer.
  • Portability. The Rotomite-8000 is transportable anywhere in the US (as is the Rotomite-6000) without special permitting on a step-deck flat bed.  Minimal on-site assembly includes attaching the cutterhead and engine exhaust.
  • 126 inch wide removable Cutterhead. The Rotomite-8000’s 126” wide removable cutterhead provides 10 feet of actual dredging width without compromising the dredge’s portability.  The operator in the field can attach or detach the cutterhead to or from the dredge in 20 minutes by means of six bolts, four pins, and two hydraulic quick couplers.
  • Bent Ladder. The Rotomite-8000’s bent ladder design eliminates all flexible hose running under the dredge and associated service issues, and enables a hydraulic cylinder operated ladder to reach dredging depths of 27.33 feet, the deepest in its dredge class.
  • Inverted prop. The Rotomite-8000’s propulsion system uses an inverted prop system that pulls rather than pushes.  Differing from the Rotomite-6000, the prop is in front of the hydraulic motor and overhung load adapter.  The design feature enables the dredge’s pontoons to flank the prop thereby eliminating the need for a prop guard and potential cavitation and vortexes.
  • Hydraulic-Assist Steering. The Rotomite-8000’s hydraulic-assist steering enables one finger control and makes the Rotomite-8000 easier and more comfortable to operate than even the Rotomite-6000.
  • Fingertip Joystick Propulsion Control. The operator controls the Rotomite-8000’s prop speed by means of a handy, easy to use Joystick conveniently located next to the seat armrest.
  • Two-Speed Traverse. At the flick of a switch the Rotomite-8000’s two-speed traverse enables the operator to achieve  traverse speeds of up to 125 feet per minute with the cutterhead disengaged.  Such high speeds are particularly useful when backing across a pond on the traverse cable to cut another swath.
  • Quiet Operation. The noise level in the cab is below 85 decibels - generally considered comfortable without earplugs.

Pump Options

  • For abrasion resistance, solids passage, weed cutting
    • Cast Pump - GIW's cast pump Model #LLC-M-200-610 is offered on the standard Rotomite-8000 - for highly abrasive applications such as sand dredging.
    • Closed Impeller – lasts longer without sacrificing performance as compared to an open impeller.
    • Solids Passage. Standard pump passes 4 1/8 inch solids. Vortex pump (to be available soon) passes solids in excess of 6”
    • Weeds or Stringy Material. Open impeller is a self-cleaning design that passes most stringy material.
  • Hidden Traverse Cable. The traverse cable is below deck level from the cab to the rear of the dredge resulting in elimination of cable guards running the length of the pontoons.
  • Walkway Behind Cab. The Rotomite-8000’s 24” wide walkway behind the cab enables easy access to the opposite side of the dredge’s forward section thereby increasing operator convenience and productivity.
Portability - On Land - Afloat
With a width of 8.5 feet and a height of 10 feet Contractors and Facilities Managers can move the Rotomite-8000 at high speeds on highways on a lowboy and meet all DOT regulations regarding vehicle weight, width and height without wide load compliance. This feature is important for any customer who must dredge multiple sites at different locations.
Unmatched Versatility

Crisafulli's unique steerable variable speed hydraulically powered propulsion system provides approximately 1,500 pounds of thrust enabling the Rotomite-8000 and its Crisafulli 8" discharge J-Series pump to dredge and process up to 325 cubic yards of sludge and slurries per hour at depths up to 27.33 feet (standard; deeper in custom models) in a wide range of applications without the cost and delays of a cabled traverse system. Should the operator desire to use a traverse system rather than the Rotomite's self-propulsion feature, Crisafulli's patented Pivoting Traverse SystemTM enables the Rotomite operator to turn the dredge 180 degrees in minutes at the end of each pass without disengaging the cabling system - thereby eliminating down-time and improving productivity up to 48%.

The world's most productive 8" dredge

When used with Crisafulli's patented Pivoting Traverse System and a cabled traverse system, the Rotomite-8000 is approximately 48% more productive than competitive products. It can complete lagoon dredging projects in approximately half the time and save owners close to the entire cost of the Rotomite over several years from reduced operating costs.

Some More Features of the Rotomite-8000
Great visibility. Note the Operator's clear view of dredging operations from the forward positioned cab with large windows on all four sides on the Rotomite-8000. The new cab (with optional air and heat) is accessible from either side of the dredge for improved convenience, productivity, and safety. Cobra Cutterhead. Observe the unique opposing augers of the cutterhead designed to drive dredged material towards the center of the cutterhead and directly in front of the pump intake for maximum capture of solids, highest efficiency and reduced turbidity. Fully articulating, the cutterhead can be rotated 70 degrees on the Rotomite-8000 to attack compacted, settled wastes. Safety guard rails. Note the guard rails on each side of the dredge and flanking the ladder.
