Crisafulli FlumpTM

Customer:  U.S. Operating Services, Scrubgrass Generating Station.  Contact: Philip Jones, Plant Engineer, Type of Facility: Coal fired power plant

The Scrubgrass Generating Station owns and operates a Crisafulli FLUMP system.  The FLUMP was manufactured with an abrasion resistant hardened carbon steel Crisafulli J-series slurry pump.  The FLUMP dredge is operated manually from an on-shore control panel.  Slurry is pumped to a drying bed for several lagoons at distances up to 800 feet.  The slurry consists of water and fly ash with specific gravity of approximately 2.0.  The slurry has solid concentrations of up to 20% (weight).  The Crisafulli FLUMP dredge is operated manually between 6 and 8 hours per day as manpower, weather and logistics of slurry removal allow.  The system consists of a 25 HP slurry pump, steel platform and floatation package with a polyethylene floating discharge system.  Manual control of pump, traverse and depth functions is effected at the control panel.  Lateral positioning is controlled by a manual, 4-post traversing system utilizing endless cable tensioners and wire rope.  Jeffrey K. Munsell,  Technical Sales Engineer

Customer: P. W. Gillibrand Contact: Tom Robertson: Type of Facility: Sand & gravel producer.

P.W. Gillibrand owns and operates an Automated FLUMP™ System manufactured by SRS Crisafulli.  The dredge is used primarily in the manual mode as duty cycle duration required was not nearly as long as was anticipated by the customer.  The operation is from shore based control panel.  The dredge is used to remove silt from a settling pond in a sand & gravel supply operation which includes washing the product.  Material is natural sand and gravel that is pumped out of a basin to maintain volume within the basin for settling purposes.  This system was manufactured of A36 carbon steel with abrasion resistant components as required in high wear areas.  Hardwired remote control from shore to dredge was used.  Automated features include dredge travel speed and positioning of the dredge on the lagoon.  Carl K. Richards, Senior Sales Engineer

FLUMP Case History and Testimonial

Morgan McCutcheon of IMERYS Kaolin Mine, Sandersville, GA, First Anniversary Update - September 23, 2003

"1st year Net Profits from the FLUMP operation dredging one of our kaolin lagoons were approximately twice our cost in the FLUMP. Current yield: 146 Dry Tons Per Day and 300,000 – 400,000 Gallons Per Day of Re-Use Water. We achieved 108% of first year production Goal. Our initial goal of 5% Waste Slurry into our “Blunger” blend is currently running well ahead at 15% and is only limited by the plant’s current filtering system. The factor is based on the residual salts created by 30 years of Alum flocculant. At the current rate of production the FLUMP Slurry Removal System will produce an annual dollar savings of approximately four times our cost in the FLUMP."

FLUMP Case History and Testimonial

Application: Dredging settled rendering sludge from discharge ponds.
Customer: Griffin Industries, Inc.
Contacts: Windel Stracener, Director of Operations, Michael Grosskopf, Special Projects Manager.
Type of Facility: Rendering Plant.

Griffin Industries uses its Crisafulli FLUMP on a rotating basis to dredge and manage settles wastes at multiple sites. The 4” Severe Duty FLUMP has foam-filled modular polyethylene pontoons and coal tar epoxy coating throughout. The FLUMP dredge is operated manually from an on-shore control panel with a hard-wire remote contol capable of giving commands from up to 400 feet away. The Crisafulli FLUMP is transported from site to site on an as-needed basis. In addition to the controls the system consists of a 75 HP Crisafulli slurry pump, floating discharge piping and a two-post manual cable traverse system. The nature of the sludge is similar to a thin tar and the FLUMP has been successful removing up to 18” of settled sludge in a single pass. Pump on/off speed and direction, traverse speed and direction and dredge cutterhead depth make for a versatile and highly productive dredge operation.

FLUMPs with Pivoting Traverse System

Customer:   Engelhard Corporation (formerly Mearl Corp.), Contact: Paul Ellington   Type of Facility: Pigment plant. Location: North Charleston, SC. Date of install:  1996

February 1996. Mearl Corporation owns and operates an Automated FLUMP™ system manufactured by SRS Crisafulli.  Operation is from shore based control panel.  The FLUMP is used to remove mica from a settling pond used at a pigment plant.  Material is 8 to 10 micron size and contains small amounts of titanium dioxide.  pH level in containment is 10 due to some dissolved salts.  Sludge is pumped @ 19.5% solids with a specific gravity of 1.08 and a viscosity of 750 cp.  This system was manufactured from A36 carbon and abrasion resistant steel.  Wetted parts were coated with coal tar epoxy coating to resist corrosion due to nature of liquid in containment.  Hardwired remote control from shore to dredge was used.  Automated features are automatic reversing function, lateral move and additional inputs for level control of containment.  Traverse speed and cutterhead speed were made adjustable to reduce resuspension of solids as conditions demanded.   Carl K. Richards, Senior Sales Engineer
